Term Information

Accession
GO:0044824
Name
retroviral 3' processing activity
Ontology
molecular_function
Synonyms
3' processing reaction, 3'-processing activity
Alternate IDs
None
Definition
The catalysis of the removal of two di- or tri-nucleotides from each 3' end of double-stranded viral DNA, exposing recessed 3' hydroxyls. Source: Reactome:R-HSA-164522, PMID:22580823
Comment
This reaction may serve to remove heterogeneous extra bases from the viral DNA end, and to stabilize the integrase-DNA complex. The chemistry of cleavage is a simple hydrolysis by single-step transesterification.
