Term Information

Accession
GO:0039678
Name
viral genome ejection through host cell envelope
Ontology
biological_process
Synonyms
phage genome ejection, viral genome injection through bacterial membranes
Alternate IDs
None
Definition
Ejection by a non-enveloped prokaryotic virus of its genome into the host cytoplasm. Caudovirales carry an ejection apparatus that can be long and contractile, long and noncontractile, or short, and is able to penetrate the host cell envelope to deliver the viral genome into the host cell cytoplasm. Source: UniProtKB-KW:KW-1171, GOC:ch, PMID:23385786
Comment
When a pore-forming protein is involved, see also 'pore-mediated entry of viral genome into host cell ; GO:0044694'.
