Definition
A multiprotein nickel-containing complex that possesses urease activity (catalysis of the hydrolysis of urea to ammonia and carbon dioxide). Source: InterPro:IPR008221, PMID:2651866
Comment
Eukaryotic microorganisms, plants, and probably Gram-positive bacteria, possess a homopolymeric urease. In contrast, urease complexes from gram-negative bacteria studied thus far clearly possess three distinct subunits (alpha, beta and gamma). Tightly bound nickel is present in all urease complexes.
