Term Information

Accession
GO:0015513
Name
high-affinity secondary active nitrite transmembrane transporter activity
Ontology
molecular_function
Synonyms
nitrite uptake permease activity
Alternate IDs

Definition
Catalysis of the transfer of nitrite from one side of the membrane to the other, up the solute's concentration gradient. The transporter binds the solute and undergoes a series of conformational changes. Transport works equally well in either direction and is driven by a chemiosmotic source of energy. In high affinity transport the transporter is able to bind the solute even if it is only present at very low concentrations. Source: GOC:mtg_transport, ISBN:0815340729
